Here is my identity chart and how I would write about three of the words I used on my chart.  Click the comment to read my descriptions. I put in an extra for you.

Ms. S’s Identity Chart – Written part, sample.

Instructions: How do the labels you placed on the chart shape how you perceive the world and your place in it? How do they shape the decisions you make? Talk about at least 3 of the labels you use. Write this on the back of your chart.

Teacher – being a teacher makes me want to teach people things wherever I am. I saw a guy trying to figure out something on a map and went over to him to offer help (that also goes along with the “helpful” one).

Mom – because I am a mom, I think I am more sensitive to the safety of all kids; I see a kid in a crosswalk and think, “that’s somebody’s baby” and am more cautious myself.

History buff – being a history buff (and being analytical, too) means that when I watch a movie that is set in a historical time-period, I am very critical of whether it is being done accurately or not. I may not enjoy the movie because too much of it is inaccurate. Or I may love a movie because they did a great job with accuracy as well as telling a good story.

Defender – I hate bullying. When I see or hear about it, I want to do something about it. I was bullied in 5th and 6th grade and hated it. When I was in 7th grade I was more confident and spoke up when I saw another kid being bullied. Now I teach Facing History lessons because I am concerned about social justice in our society both in the past and present.
