World War II Oral Histories

Below you will find oral histories from all aspects of WWII.  Some are soldiers' stories; others are home front stories. Click on the pictures or links below to read (and in some cases view video interviews) about the experiences Americans had during this eventful time.  Note: in some cases you may have to scroll down through some earlier history of the person to get the to the WWII material.  It is all interesting, of course!  Assignment is at the bottom of the page.

WWII Oral History Assignment

Choose two oral histories from this page: one war service story and one home front story.  As you read, answer the questions in the assignment sheet. They will not be in order; they will come throughout the interview.  Type up your answers in proper written format in a Word Doc. Name your document in this manner: “LastName_FirstName_Per.#_WWII_Oral_History” (ex.: Sutton_Heidi_Per.1_WWII_Oral_History).  This assignment will be due at the end of the WWII unit.  You may download the Word Doc and type your notes in the document, but you must formalize it (remove instructions, add your name, fix spacing, typos, etc.) before you turn it in.
